On July 29, 2000, a group of western states alums got together at Oceanside beach. The reunion was extremely well-planned by Chuck Schacher and Al Biener, both grads of the class of 1953.
Approximately 60 people showed up and enjoyed reminiscing, munching the catered burgers, hot dogs and chicken, as well as tons of salad and other goodies. Alums attended in from Tucson, Las Vegas and Phoenix, as well as many California cities. Helen Lander, class of 1949, who previously has organized the Southern California reunions along with her co-chairperson, Marilyn Korn, also class of 1949, attended. Look for more western states reunions.
Incidentally, former FRHS teacher Arthur Traiger and his wife Dorothy (Cohen) Traiger, class of 1947, are both Certified Ski Instructors in Sandy, Utah and said they would love to have one of the get-togethers in that area!
Later that night, not in association with our reunion but very much appropos, there was a 50s Rock 'n Roll concert at the Oceanside Amphitheater featuring the Coasters, Drifters and, believe it or not, the all-original Platters. It was, to put it mildly, FANTASTIC. The blue-haired "bubbies" were bouncing up and down, screaming their hearts out, and all of a sudden I realized, other than the hair color, I AM one of them!
Look for forthcoming photos of the event either in the Carol's On-Line newsletter or on this page.
Here is the latest just in from the planning committee! Posted on July 22, 2000

For out of towners, there are 2 motels within walking distance. The DAYS INN and the TRAVELODGE. There is also a luxury motel, THE OCEANSIDE MARINA INN.

roll show, featuring The Drifters, The Coasters, and The Platters at the

Hello to our Western states FRHS alums!
It's been over two years since the big 100th year reunion in New
York. I know that some of you probably didn't get a chance to get
there, especially those living in the western states and in view of that
fact, Al Biener
(FRHS '53), Ellen (Scharer) Hesterman (FRHS '56) and I, Chuck Schacher
(FRHS '53) are holding a bring-your-own BBQ at the Oceanside Harbor Beach
on July 29, 2000 and we would like to extend an invitation to you to join
us.
It is our understanding that a large group from Las Vegas will be
attending. If you were one of those who responded to the Las Vegas
questionnaire, this reunion will take the place of the proposed Las Vegas
reunion that Shelly Fogel was working on.
RSVP, please so I know how many tables to reserve. You can contact
me or Al Biener for directions and travel assistance. It is a great beach
with plenty of overnite R.V. parking. I hope you and your friends can come.
It
is likely that Carol Marston from Phoenix will be there.
Sincerely,
Al Biener albiener@earthlink.net

WESTERN STATES REUNION PLANNED
Hi to our western states FRHS alumni!
My name is Al Biener and I lived on Beach 68th Street in Arverne.
I was in the class of 1953 at FRHS. My friend Chuck Schacher lived on Beach
27th Street and was also in the class of 1953. Chuck now lives in
Oceanside, CA and I live in San Marcos, CA.
We thought about having a little reunion at the Oceanside Harbor Beach on July 29. We were thinking of a "pot luck" sort of affair and we would like some of your input regarding this.
If you are interested in this get-together we'll be looking forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Al Biener albiener@earthlink.net
Chuck Schacher PATCHU@prodigy.net
(Editor's Note: This will take the place of the proposed Las
Vegas reunion.)
