We are happy to announce that the reunion for
the 50th anniversary of our graduation will be held the weekend of
April 25, 2009, at the Marriott Hotel at Laguardia Airport, in NYC.
There will be a buffet dinner/dance on Saturday night with a cocktail party
and an open bar. We are working on arranging for a brunch/breakfast on
Sunday morning for those wishing to attend. The cost for the dinner,
music, and an updated alumni directory will be $110 per person.
In order to reserve the ballroom and the date, we
need your deposits as soon as possible!!!!
Reservations made after Dec. 15th will have to include the full $110 charge
per person. We need to know how many people will be coming so we can reserve
the right size ballroom. The list of attendees is growing daily,
and we are expecting a large crowd. Please be sure to list the names
of all those who will be attending when you send in your deposit.
As deposits are received, we will be posting the names of attendees
on the website. The address of the Far Rockaway Online Alumni Association

There are guest rooms being held for our group
for the nights of Friday the 24th, and Saturday the 25th. (You many
register for one or both nights.) The rates for our group will be
$139, plus applicable taxes, per night. The rooms are newly renovated,
and have internet hookups and flat screen television sets. You may select
between rooms with two full beds, or one king size bed. After we
sign the contract, there will be a special phone number posted on this
site, so you can register directly with the Marriott. You will be
able to register for rooms at the Marriott Hotel, beginning Tuesday, November
11th.

You must register by March 24th, in order to
be sure to receive our special rate. After that date, you will be charged
the best avaialbe rate the hotel has to offer.
The Marriott is a completely smoke-free
environment. This policy will be strictly enforced.
Fifty years is certainly an important milestone,
and one that should not pass without a proper celebration. We hope
that you feel as we do, and want to celebrate and catch up with old friends
and relive some of the fun we had in school back in the 50s.
Please spread the word on the reunion to any
other 1959 grads that you may know. If you can send us contact information,
it will be very helpful. We were a very large class, and the more people
we can reach, the more meaningful the reunion will be. I would also
like to ask you to check your closets and bookcases to see if you have
any Far Rockaway High School memorabilia around. We would like to
have a display of any old programs, photos, or other items you may have
from our high school days.I know that I still have my Senior pin and a
few report cards!!

REUNION ATTIRE:
We have had some questions about a "dress code" for the reunion.
The operative code is COMFORT. No gowns, tuxes or jeans - wear what
will be comfortable and look good. Hopefully, we all have at least one
outfit that meets those criteria.
PHOTOS:
We are not hiring a photographer. We expect that many of you will be bringing
your digital cameras to record the evening, and those photos can be posted
on the Alumni website. That way you will be able to view them all, and
even print them. Just remember who you photographed, so all
people in your photos can be named.
Directions on how to send your photos: If
you're using a digital camera, please send the photo as an e-mail attachment,
with captions, and sized to 640 x 480, to Carol Marston, lebaroness2@cox.net.
Each photo will be made into a thumbnail which can be clicked to view at
the original size.
If you don't know who a person is in a photo
and you're writing a caption, please put in a line and question mark where
the person is standing, left to right, like this: _______? and possibly
someone will know that person and fill in the blank space by writing to
Carol. Please remember to caption your photos; they'll be returned
to you if they do not have captions.

Updated Directory Information (Added 02/03/09)
We had said that we planned to distribute an
updated directory of our clasmates at the reunion. We need your entries
as
soon as possible. Please write two paragraphs (100 words or so)
summarizing your life, what you have learned, etc., and send it, along
with up to two photos and whatever contact information you want published
(names, mailing address, e-mail address, phones etc.). Based on what we
have received so far, please make the entry personal - don't make
it sound like a resume.
One of our classmates, David Schnitzer, is
putting the directory together for us, and we are sure you will be impressed
with the finished product. We think you will also be surprised to learn
what some of our classmates have been up to these past 50 years! Please
submit your information by Feb. 20th,
so Dave has plenty of time to produce the directory.

WHAT TIME DOES EVERYTHING START??
We will have registration tables in the lobby,
right outside the ballroom at the Marriott. We will be at the tables
by 7:00 PM. You can sign in and pick up your name tags and
directories (one for each 59 grad).
At 8:00 PM the doors will be opened, the cocktail
hour will begin, the bar will be open and the music will start. Seating
is open, so you may sit wherever you wish.
Dinner will be served at 9:00 PM.
