The Rockaway Museum
Could Use Your Help!

Good Morning, Skip.... My name is Dean Georges (FRHS 1954).  I currently live on 130th Street & the Beach (133 Beach 130th st. 11694).  I own/operate a flower shop my folks started in 1945, still on 116th street. I believe it's the oldest business still run by the same family in Rockaway Park...also I own/operate Irene Hayes Wadley & Smythe LeMoult, a florist in Rockefeller Center, since 1976....the above is just background info, not the real reason for this e-mail.

For the last 4 years I am involved with the establishment of the Rockaway Museum (One of five Trustees). After 4 years of exhibits in various sites along the peninsula (banks, libraries, churches, hospitals, & private businesses) we are getting ready to establish a permanent home in the WAVE building. We will open later this month with a great exhibit "Rockaway's Playland...a retrospective". This website seems to be a natural to get the word out to former (and current) residents/graduates/firends of the Rockaways. Could we count on you for some help in that regard? Of course the Museum can use all the help it can get in so many areas. Volunteers would be great in publicity, curating, creativity, financial, grant writing, "hands on", donations or "on loan" items for display...just about any way possible.

I can be reached by e-mail (irenehayes@aol.com), mail: 133 beach 130th street, rockaway park 11694, or phone: day 212-247-0051/nite 718-474-6829.

Skip, again, we'd really appreciate any help we can get..and I'd love to talk to anyone who's out there. Thanks!!
