The American Cancer Society is once again teaming up with the Rockaway
Community to bring the 8th Annual Relay For Life event to Beach Channel
High School on June 9-10, 2007. Relay For Life is the largest fundraiser
in the world with over 4,400 events taking place across the country last
year. The event is a unique celebration of life in honor and in memory
of those whose lives have been touched by cancer. It is a non-competitive
team event where people take turns walking, running, skipping or dancing
around a track, relay-style. In the evening, there is a candle ceremony
in tribute to those who have been affected by cancer.
We are hoping to get your business involved in this wonderful community
event. Different ways your school could get involved would be through
a “Wall of Hope Sponsorship,” an event sponsorship, donating volunteer
help, donating items from your business and finally getting a team together
and actually participating in the walk with the entire community.
We are also open to any other ideas you or your staff may have!
The power of Relay For Life is that it allows communities to grieve
for those lost to cancer and to celebrate the lives of those who have survived.
For the newly diagnosed, Relay offers a chance to meet someone who has
survived the same type of cancer. For the cancer patient in treatment,
Relay
provides an opportunity to share with others. For the long-term
survivor, Relay brings a community’s recognition of the struggle and closure
to a trying time in life.
Your donation will help us generate the necessary funding that supports
our mission of eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing
cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research,
education, advocacy, and service. Research supported by the American
Cancer Society has produced tremendous breakthroughs for many patients.
For some this has meant a cure. For others, therapy has improved
their quality of life and a cure may be in sight. The money raised
from Relay For Life will continue to bring us closer to a cure.
Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to your favorable
reply. If you have any questions, please call John Link at 718-263-2225,
