HELLO ALL, JUST WANTED TO SHARE SOME NEWS
I am sure by now you have heard the news:
FRHS will be closing its doors for good.
Any educational facility closing its doors
is sad. It’s truly sad when a storied institution with the pedigree,
lineage and history of FRHS, closes its doors. FRHS, in its day,
set the standard for both academic and athletic excellence. I look
back at my time at FRHS with great fondness and lots of memories.
Rick Smith, Rob Leray, and I are in the planning
stages of organizing a celebration to honor the legacy of this prestigious
institution and all those who have passed through its hallowed halls.
In planning the celebration for FRHS, we gave much thought to and had much
discussion on two issues which go hand in hand. Those being Cost and
Seating Capacity. This being a celebration of FRHS, the affair will
be an open registration, which we feel will attract a large volume
of alumni from different graduating classes,
thus our concerns over the seating capacity.
We discussed having the affair at a larger venue. Unfortunately,
in this regard everything is relative; with a larger venue, the price per
person significantly increases Rick, Rob and I are in consensus and
feel our best value is back at the Knights Of Columbus hall where we held
the last reunion.
We are pleased to inform you that we have reserved
the date of August 15, 2009 at the Knights of Columbus catering hall in
Oceanside, NY to celebrate FRHS. We are expecting thmis to be a hot ticket
item and the seating capacity to fill up rather quickly.
As plans develop , we will post them on www.farrockaway.com
If you have any thoughts or ideas, please feel free to share them with
us. We will be using the Far Rockaway website for purposes of posting and
contacting alums, so please keep your contact info updated. Additionally,
please spread the word and let people of our intentions. E-mail me

UPDATE!
June 11, 2008
Hello all, Rick, Rob and I wanted to post this
update for the sake of clarity. As you know, the 1978 & Friends Reunion/Celebration
is planned for August 15, 2009 at the Knights of Columbus, Oceanside, NY.
Let us begin by apologizing for any confusion
regarding this reunion/celebration. We have been receiving a lot of e-mails
strongly suggesting we have this party at the Marriott in Uniondale or
some other venue with larger seating capacity. We've also been asked to
arrange lunches, cocktail parties, tours of the school, breakfast/lunch
on the field prior to and in conjunction with our reunion/celebration.
Our focus is and will be planning the 1978 & Friends Reunion and High
School Celebration. If anyone wishes to organize additional activities
in conjunction with this event, please feel at liberty to do so.
Additionally, we have received e-mails inquiring
whether this is a redux of the 1978 & Friends reunion, or will it be
an open registration for all classes.
When we chose to have this affair at the Knights
of Columbus, we were aware the hall would only accommodate 400+ guests.
We are being deluged with requests for seats. As of now, we have not set
up registration and are in the process of doing so. When ready, we will
conduct a pre-registration for those who attended the 2007 1978 & friends
reunion. The pre-registration will be held as follows: July 1, 2008 to
January 31, 2009. For all other classes or friends that wish to attend,
open registration will be as follows: March 1, 2009 to August 7, 2009.
Ticket price will be $60.00 per person. The
party will be at the Knights of Columbus, Oceanside, NY. The hours will
be from 8:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Included are a cocktail hour and open bar
for all five hours. Dinner will be buffet style. Payment in full must be
received in order to be registered and your seat confirmed. We can not
hold or reserve seats.
We hope this update addresses some of your
questions. Please feel free to contact us if you have any other questions.
