I took several photos of the building groups and then walked south towards the two playgrounds and the boardwalk. That same large black fence "cuts off" the southern-most part of Crest Road--no more "auto turnaround." The little circle with grass is still there--but the flagpole is missing. It appears that the building complex is now separated from play areas such as the boardwalk and the beach. When WaveCrest Gardens first opened its doors in the early 1950s, its biggest selling point seemed to be "living on the beach" with the major emphasis on that particular aspect of the location. Now it appears that this entire concept has been completely abandoned. In fact, the entire idea has been deleted as evidenced by that black iron fence apparently designed to separate the apartment complex from the "sand and surf." The "beach entrance" to the south is rapidly reverting to its natural state with weeds overgrowing the area, scrub and dune grass taking firm hold and small bushy trees breaking through the cement in vital areas--giving the place a "forgotten" appearance. Both playgrounds are gone. The east side playground appears to be a parking area. The west side was completely abandoned. I was able to find the "two little steps" going down into the playground--and the poured asphalt surface is still there (with weeds growing out of it). The four swing sets, two slides, two sandboxes, four teetertotters and the drinking fountain are gone--but I was able to walk around in there and pick out where those things had stood so many years before.
