I then drove further east on Nameoke and turned right (south) on Central Avenue (this part of Central Avenue in my day
had been called "Far Rockaway Boulevard").  I continued on to Mott Avenue, then "hung" a right turn and pulled into
the Far Rockaway Shopping Center (which I had always heard referred to as the Waldbaum's Shopping Center).  The
Waldbaum's store has been replaced by an Associated Supermarket.  I found most of the stores boarded up and
abandoned.  Entire sections of the center appear to have been unoccupied for years.

There were so many vehicles in the shopping center that it was impossible to find a place to park.  At first, I wondered
why this was the case, inasmuch as there were so few stores still operating.  Then I realized that it was because of the
subway -- the Far Rockaway station which is directly south and across the street.  People probably park in the shopping
center and then leave their cars all day -- taking the train into the city.
