The next stop was into WaveCrest Gardens itself (south side of Crest Road).  I did not know if I would even be allowed in--there is a guard booth at the entrance but it was unmanned and as soon as my car drove up, the little yellow gate "west up" and allowed entrance.  During my youth, I had lived in one of the three buildings on the southwest part of the development (20-41, 20-43, 20-45).  This is the only "group" without a terrace.  I remember when they first built this section, they had such trouble "keeping the kids off" what they called "grass" but now, after almost 60 years, the grass has grown in.  It looked great!  I fact, the buildings have never looked better!  There was ample parking and in the half hour that I was parked there, I don't think I saw more than eight people walking about.  I found this most unusual.  I remember these buildings constantly involved in human activity!  People continually streaming in and about, mothers with babies in carriages, women sitting on lawn chairs discussing the day's events, cars by the dozens pulling in, parking, unparking.  The sounds of childrens' voices as they played and called out to one another.  The place always had been "so very alive."

Now, what I experienced was a very quiet and somber, an almost deserted atmosphere.  I did not see any activity even at those many apartment windows.  Furthermore, over half of the parking spaces were unoccupied.  I found the place very eerie.
