The next block, between Cornaga and New Haven Avenue, I parked directly in front of the lumber shop ("Far
Rockaway Lumber" back in the 50s and 60s) and got out to take more pictures.  I took a few of places (The
Leek Building) that had housed Mortons Army and Navy store for years.  The sign "Mortons" still is in full
display for all to see--but something else is sold from that site now.  The Chase Bank building is still there--
but is now used for some other purpose.  The building that was the RKO Strand is still standing, but is stripped
of anything that would give any hint of what it had been in its heyday.  What had been "Far Rockaway
Fortunoffs" still exists but there is some other concern now using that facility.  I took some pictures of the
Catholic Church--the playground to its left--and you could see the rear of the school (The Lyceum) in the
background.  I also stood at the corner and took pictures (facing south) of the Bell Cleaners (formerly the
Campbell Building--a two-story building back in the 50s) and the southwest corner which had been the Hudson
House-Ocean Hotel.  I even looked for the ceramic tiles embedded in the sidewalk which had read "Hudson
House-Established 1849," but I could not find any trace of them.
