I have already checked out your web site. I love it! It is great fun to remember. I read the postings every few days on the AOL baby boomer site. I know a lot of the folks out there. I graduated in 1975 and my husband graduated in 1973. There seems to be quite an abundance of grads from those years doing postings. But in the past few weeks the 50s and 60s grads are popping up. I guess it is due to the ease in access and the price in computers dropping a bit.
Anyway, I recently learned how to scan photos in and save as tif and jpeg and gif files. I scanned in some photos of my two daughters (1 and 6 years old) and made it into screen savers for my husband. Cool present! He was surprised! Now he can look at them all day at work.
After checking out your web site, I plan on gathering some of my old photos from Rockaway and sending you some stories, and boy do we have some stories!!!. We are still in touch with quite a few FRHS grads, some who still live in the Rockaways and others that don't. What format do you prefer? Tif, gif or jpeg????
We also plan on attending the reunion. My folks still live in Bayswater. We live in South Florida.

Hi, my name is Rich Wheeler. My friends used to call me Twitch. I went to Far Rock from 1971 thru 1975. I moved in 1975 to Gig Harbor, WA. I now live in Tacoma, WA. I lived in a town in New York called Rockaway Point or Breezy Point as some people call it. I went to grade school at St. Francis De Sales in Belle Harbor.
I read that someone asked if anyone remembers Rockaway's Playland. I remember it very well. I worked one summer in the snack bar on the boardwalk behind Playland. I also worked at the McDonald's next to the Cross Bay Bridge for a couple of summers. I am currently working at the Washington State Liquor Warehouse. We supply all the liquor for the state run liquor stores. I have some old photos from the seventies of Rockaway Point if anyone is interested.

I did not graduate with my class of 1975, I grad Kubasaki High In Okinawa Japan.
I mixed up with the wrong crowd and only went up to the 11th grade before I
enlisted in the Marine Corps in March of 75. Luckily for me I did because! Most
of that crowd from Edgemere projects and the 60's and Hammels are now deceased
form aids due to heroine or in jail. I Attended PS42 and JHS 198, participated
in many sport leagues The Rockaway Athletic Association, 101 Pct. PAL little
league, 101Pct. Pop Warner football Dolphins, which played all their games @ Far
Rock HS. The Edgemere Houses Rockaway Raiders football team with the Kyle Rote
league and spent countless days @ the after school center in the PS105 gymnasium
with Mr. Silverman playing in basketball tournaments that traveled around NYC
via the A train, oh and don't forget all the wiffle ball games inside the gym.
So many friends were made I just wish I was smart enough to have stayed in some
sort of contact with them!! There's nothing like your childhood best friends
from the block and schools that played hooky and made out with your girlfriends
under the boardwalk. Watching the fireworks every Wednsday night, working at
Playland in the summer, eating cotton candy and knishes. Surfing on 32nd street
with my friends surfboard my family could never afford to buy my own. If you

living in southern California. I have raised my family here, put myself

I would have graduated from FRHS in 1975, but my family moved to
Rockaway Beach the year that BCHS opened, so I transferred there. I just
found this website and wish I'd found it sooner. I'm so disappointed that
I missed the 25th Reunion and the chance to see everyone. Hopefully, there'll
be a 30th, which I will definitely attend. I recognized an awful lot of
names and remember a lot of people from both JHS 198 (remember Mr. Webb;

Greetings - one and all. This is an absolute delight to try to re-establish
with everyone. I had lived in San Francisco, CA from 1983-1991 and
then returned to NY (Long Island) in June 1991. As I scrolled through
the list of registered alumni I noticed some familiar names. I would love
to know is there any chance of a 25-year reunion for the class of 1975.
If I can help in any way, please feel free to e-mail me. I am currently
working as a field auditor traveling throughout the states. I am
also a Director of Marketing for the United States Basketball League's
Long Island Surf franchise. I want to thank all of those attending
the reunion of the Class of '75 for making it such a great success. It
was a great experience being on the committee. This website was a
great help in bringing us together and making the reunion a reality.
The real hero of the reunion was Mark Topaz. His diligent work and efforts
saw the reunion go from a conversation to a complete party for 196 graduates
including their guests. Hats off to Mark. I was so glad to see everyone,
especially my good friend Mitch Greenblatt. The ability to get back in
touch with some wonderful classmates was a REAL TREAT. I look forward to
the next one, whenever that may be.

It's now 6pm, Saturday, January 12, 2002 and I've just returned
from a drive through Rockaway..FRHS, Central Ave. (Ginos and On On Kitchen
are gone! Morton's sign still on top of old building., Wavecrest, the Boardwalk,
P.S. 197, and so on. This was my first trip back to Far Rockaway in almost
13 years. Great experience. Will never forget the good old days.

I'm looking for some of my old friends. I am from the class 1975 now live
in Flordia would love to hear from anyone who remembers me. I lived in
FarRockaway... Bayswater, and before that in Rockaway...Hammels, until
17 yrs old then moved to Far Rockaway at 18 yrs old. I come from a family
of 12 and have 7 sisters and 5 brothers. The beach was my hangout til I
moved to Far Rockaway and Milties and Johnnies, a bar on the beach was
also a hangout. I love New York and was so hurt by the 9/11 incident, I
will go to part with the Twin Towers this summer for I feel in my heart

Wow! What a stroll down memory lane. Wavecrest, Playland, Food Fair,
the names, the people. What a rush. Reading the notes from Ann-Marie Connors,
whose grandmother Annie (Food Fair) used to spend many evenings at my house
playing cards or Michelle Grosso whom I worked with at the Wavecrest Luncheonette.
Remember Dewey, Ruthie, Tiny, George and Lucy! My fiends do not believe
we had fireworks EVERY Wednesday or softball games EVERY night in the Wavecrest
playground all summer long. Remember the Bungalow People. This is too cool.
Need to pay my respects to Malcom Bodenlos, whom I learned passed
on a few years ago. The man was a saint for his efforts at Donahue Field
(17th and Seagirt) and the PAL Gym (above the theater and the old Knights
of Columbus Hall). The kids he helped cannot be counted. Great Man who
is thought of often and remembered. The other folks like Frank Smith (Smitty),
Bert Wilkes, Ken Fisher and countless others provided awesome help to Mal.
Hard to know where I would be without all their efforts.
I left Rockaway before actually graduating in 1975 and joined the
Navy. My brother (Chris - Inwood) and mother (Mary Jane - Valley Stream)
still live close by. I headed for Hillsboro,Oregon in 1979 and then found
my way to Kennewick, Washington in 1994. Been there ever since. It's a
good life. Desert here, not much rain. To keep that beach sand in my toes,
I bought a vacation house on the Oregon coast about 15 years ago. You can
never leave the ocean far behind. I am married to a great girl named Susan
and have 3 wonderful daughters. Over the years we have had the opportunity
to visit and even though things are not like they used to be, it has been
fun showing them where I grew up and telling the stories about our youth.
Great times! I had the opportunity to vist Far Rockaway a few weeks ago and for
the first time in many years was feeling encouraged about its future. Lots
of new development going on in the 20's and 30's where the bungalows used
to be. Unreal that it has taken so long for a treasure to be rediscovered.
I hope it returns to the greatness it once held. Keep up the good
work!
